Last chance to spot the hazards and keep your kitchen safe!
Warwickshire Firefighters have been getting local residents to ‘spot the hazards’ in a specially adapted kitchen at MFI in Leamington this week, as part of their kitchen fire safety campaign.
The campaign has been running throughout the week and now residents only have the weekend left to come along and sign up for a free home fire safety check and to see how safe your kitchen really is!
Throughout the week there have been a number of competitions taking place including a colouring competition for the 0 – 5’s and a spot the hazards competition for the 6 – 11 age group. Entry forms for the competition are available from MFI between, Thursday 15 – Sunday 18 February. Winners will be notified by 5th March 2007. One of the prizes includes a VIP visit to Leamington Fire Station. So if your children would like to visit the station, get down to MFI on the Shires Retail Park in Leamington this weekend and enter into our free prize draw!
Crew Manager, Jerry Horne said:
“The main aim of the campaign is to raise awareness of fire risks in the kitchen, highlighting the dangers of using chip pans and over loading plug sockets. During the event firefighters will also be on hand to provide essential home fire safety advice and to offer free home fire safety checks to vulnerable residents including the elderly and families with young children.”
In Warwickshire last year there were 134 kitchen fires, 46 of these were in the central area. A number of these incidents included grills and cookers being left unattended and chip pan fires.
