County council hands out £15k of funding to community projects

Four separate projects in Warwick district are set to benefit from a total of more than £15,000 of funding from Warwickshire County Council’s Well Being and Social Inclusion Funds, following approval by the Warwick Area Committee.

The projects include raising public awareness of recycling in Leamington, a scheme that will establish a village shop in Barford, events for voluntary and community fundraisers in south Warwickshire, and help towards making counselling services more accessible in Warwick.

Councillor Sarah Boad, Chair of Warwick Area Committee, said: “The Well Being and Social Inclusion Funds aim to help communities address issues of local concern. Competition for funding from these funds is always high, but the Warwick Area Committee is pleased to approve financial support for these four worthy projects in Warwick district.”

The four projects to benefit in Warwick district are:

Project: Championing sustainability at the Recycle Warehouse Organisation: Action 21
Funding: £7,000

Action 21 were awarded funding to build on the success of the Recycle Warehouse at Princes Drive in Leamington, which is currently visited by up to 850 people a week, by developing a public awareness programme. The project will provide training to volunteers about waste and environmental sustainability so they can confidently talk to the public about these issues. The funding will also go towards developing a range of display materials and information for the public.

Project: Barford Village Shop
Organisation: Barford Village Shop Community Interest Company Funding: £1,785

The Barford Village Shop Community Interest Company, a group of local people, were awarded funding to contribute to the costs of developing a new shop in Barford village as an extension to the Memorial Hall, to replace the village’s only shop which has now closed. The intention is to run the shop as a Community Shop with about 40 volunteer staff and a paid manager. It is hoped that the shop will open in September. 

Project: South Warwickshire Fundraisers Forum and Fundraising Surgeries
Organisation: CVS Warwick District / South Warwickshire Fundraisers Forum   Funding: £1,680

CVS Warwick District were awarded funding on behalf of South Warwickshire Fundraisers Forum to fund three Fundraisers Forum events in Warwick district during 2007/2008 and two fundraisers surgeries, providing one-to-one advice to local community and voluntary organizations in south Warwickshire. Forum events involve invited speakers from various funding bodies, provide networking opportunities, and include short workshops on the various skills needed to raise funds successfully.

Project: Relate Counselling Service
Organisation: Relate – South Warwickshire Funding: £5,000

‘Relate – South Warwickshire’ were awarded funding to help make their premises at Pageant House in Warwick more accessible. It follows a successful Big Lottery Fund grant to extend its counselling services to communities who have not generally used Relate’s general counselling services, specifically carers, disabled people, older people and black and minority ethnic communities.
