School celebrates Chinese New Year
Pupils at St Matthew’s C of E Primary School in Rugby will be chowing down on a special feast when they celebrate Chinese New Year tomorrow.
Warwickshire County Council’s catering arm have created a tasty themed menu for primary school children across Warwickshire to enjoy as they celebrate one of the most colourful and important events of the Chinese calendar. The Chinese New Year cuisine includes Sweet ‘n’ Sour Pork, Vegetable Spring Rolls, Egg Noodles and rice, followed by Carrot and Mandarin Orange Salad and Oriental Fruit Ice Smoothies.
Lindsay Higgins from Warwickshire County Caterers said: “Food is a wonderful way to learn about other cultures and we are delighted to celebrate Chinese New Year with our young customers. The menu has been created to meet our healthy nutritional standards so it’s not just fun but it’s balanced too.”
Chinese New Year 2007 is Year of the Pig and people born under the sign of the pig are said to be sincere, friendly, entertaining and artistic. The 2007 Chinese New Year started on February 18 and celebrations traditionally tend to last up to 15 days.
