Keep matches and lighters out of reach!

Firefighters in north Warwickshire are asking parents to take extra care with lighters and matches after a three-year-old child set fire to his family home.

The fire was started in the upstairs bedroom in a house in Ansley common on Tuesday 20 February at 1.41pm. The bedroom received both smoke and fire damage. Luckily all the family managed to get out of the house and call the fire brigade before it spread.  Firefighters from Atherstone and Nuneaton attended the incident.

Sub officer, Phil Jones said:
“I would urge all residents to think carefully about where lighters or matches are kept in the home, especially when there are young children present. It only takes a few seconds to start a fire and it is so easily done.  If you do keep matches or lighters in your home, please make sure that they are kept out of the reach of young children. As with all family homes we would also urge residents to make sure that they have smoke alarms fitted.”
