Schools awarded for road safety commitment
Schools across Warwickshire will soon be receiving awards in recognition of the important road safety work they are doing as part of the KerbSafe initiative.
KerbSafe is a practical scheme organised by Warwickshire County Council’s Road Safety Unit, which has been developed to help make young children between the ages of four and five safer when they are out and about near busy roads.
It comprises practical roadside session with adult volunteer instructors and introduces children to basic skills they need to become more aware of risks of the road.
Bronze and Silver awards will be awarded to the schools that have been running the scheme for up to three years.
Stan Milewski, Senior Road Safety Officer with Warwickshire County Council, said: “KerbSafe is an important and effective way of introducing road safety to very young children. The schools, teachers and volunteers all play an extremely important role in the scheme, and I’m delighted that so many have been committed to the initiative for this length of time – I look forward to presenting them with their gold awards in the next year to two.”
