Putting the ART in firestARTer!
Rugby High School pupils are to receive prizes for some amazing artwork that warns other youngsters about the dangers of fire.
Following a visit from Warwickshire County Council’s Fire & Rescue Service, the key stage 3 pupils got creative and made posters that highlight some important messages about fire safety, arson, and the dangers of making hoax calls.
The talented bunch came up with some great ideas – so much so that fire fighters from Rugby Fire Station will be paying the school a special visit on Wednesday (28th February) to present the best three with some gift vouchers.
Andy Morgan, Watch Manager from the Rugby Area Risk Team, said: “We’re really impressed with the quality of the posters that the kids have made. We visited to the school as part of our ongoing fire safety education programme and talked to the pupils about fire safety and serious nature of arson and hoax calls.
“We’re delighted that they’ve made these posters and pleased to be returning to the school to present the prizes. “
Ruth Greenhalgh, Schools Liaison Officer for Community Fire Safety, Warwickshire County Council, said: “The posters are excellent! The aim of the schools programme is to develop the children’s knowledge and understanding of fire safety behaviour and to provide them with fire survival skills.
“Fire fighters are excellent role models and the best people to educate children about fire safety. What’s great is that the pupils also pass the information onto their parents.”
