Environmental action wins national praise
A national audit of all councils has seen Warwickshire County Council’s environmental efforts receive the highest praise possible at four stars.
The Comprehensive Performance Assessment, carried out by the Audit Commission, grades all local authorities from zero to four stars.
Warwickshire County Council as a whole scored three stars, but the detailed report revealed the environment area, which covers planning, waste and transport, scored four stars. Four stars is defined as `performing strongly – well above minimum requirements’.
Key success areas include:
- recycling and composting performance
- reductions in the number of people killed or seriously injured on the roads
- satisfaction with bus services
- consumer and business satisfaction with trading standards
John Deegan, Warwickshire County Council’s Strategic Director of the Economy and Environment Directorate, said: “We are constantly striving through innovation and hard work to provide the best value possible to the Council Tax payers of Warwickshire.”
Cllr Martin Heatley, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “To receive independent praise on a national level is wonderful recognition for all the people working here on everything from increasing our recycling levels in the county to ensuring people have easy access to public transport.”
