Work underway on Newbold Terrace footway
Works got underway today to improve the footway in Leamington’s Newbold Terrace.
Works have started in Newbold Terrace to resurface the southern footway (park side), costing £25,000, and taking approximately four weeks to complete.
The improvements are part of a larger £300,000 programme of highway maintenance works funded by a special additional highway maintenance funding allocation made available to the Warwick Area Committee by Warwickshire County Council.
Chair of the Warwick Area Committee and divisional Councillor, Sarah Boad, said: “The additional funding approved by the council earlier in this financial year is being targeted at local footway problem areas and a range of street lighting and drainage improvements.
“The footway in Newbold Terrace, which is an important town centre pedestrian route, has over the years been increasingly affected by tree root damage. The planned works will improve the uneven surfaces and aesthetically enhance this well used central pedestrian route.”
Warwickshire County Council’s Project Engineer, Scott Carpenter, added: “The work will be carried out in two phases. The first, between the Parade and the gateway to Jephson Gardens, will commence on Tuesday 6th. Parking will be prohibited along this section of road during normal working hours only. Once completed the contractor will move to the next section from the gateway to Willes Road.”
The works will be carried out for Warwickshire County Council by its term-maintenance contractor Carillion Highway Maintenance Limited.
