Winners of local history competition announced

A group of local history enthusiasts from Warmington have won a competition to produce exhibition panels on the subject of their favourite local building.

The competition, entitled Building Memories was organised by Warwickshire County Record Office and the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust Records Office with the aim of encouraging people to use their local archives and local studies libraries.

The winning entry was Grove Farm, built around 1700 for a yeoman farmer, William Claridge. The panels have been professionally redesigned and will be displayed at local libraries around the county and also at the two record offices.

Rob Eyre of Warwickshire County Record Office said:
“Exhibition panels were presented to us from all over the county. We were very impressed by the quality of the entries and would like to display all of them at the record office at some stage over the coming year.”

The research notes and panels for all the entries will be retained permanently as part of the archive at the record office in Warwick.
Elizabeth Lady Hamilton will unveil the winning entry at a prize giving on 15th March at 6.00pm in the Wolfson Hall, Shakespeare Birthplace Trust.
