Young people show that they have real talent!
Ten young people from across North Warwickshire will be showing that they have a real 'flare' for firefighting as they get ready to take their place in the passing out parade.
All of the young people taking part have completed a unique 16-day interactive training course, called FLARE, which is designed to develop the skills, confidence and opportunities of young people through team-based tasks in a fire service setting.
This exciting new initiative is aimed at young people aged 15 – 17 and is run by WFRS Youth Development Department in partnership with Connexions.
The course ran for 16 days over an eight-week period and introduced it’s participants to the structure and discipline that is renowned in the fire and rescue service.
Throughout the course participants have taken part in a range of exciting activities including team-building exercises, which aim to encourage young people to think logically and work as part of a team.
Youth Development Manager, Cheryl Jones said:
“We are really pleased to be celebrating with the young people who have completed the course. It is a real achievement for them to be taking part in the ‘passing out parade’!
"We are hoping that by completing the course, the young people will have a positive experience to take away and use to achieve personal targets either at school or in a work based setting.”
Connexions Delivery Manager, Kay Rush said:
“We are really pleased with the results achieved by the young people taking part. The course has equipped the participants with the skills they require to be more competitive in the workplace, to motivate them to re-engage in education and learning, and to reach their full potential.”
Successful candidates on the course will not only take part in a passing-out parade, but they will also achieve the ‘Challenge Award’; a nationally recognised qualification accredited through ASDAN.
The course has been funded by a Local Public Service Agreement and is being delivered by Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service Youth Development Team in partnership with Coventry and Warwickshire Connexions and Warwickshire County Council.
