Car sharing could save you thousands

Drivers are being urged to have a serious think about their daily commute and driving habits in a change that could bring them huge financial savings and benefit the environment.

Warwickshire County Council has today launched its `It Takes 2’ pages on the web at http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/ittakes2

The pages are packed with information about car sharing, offering a cost calculator for people to check the money they could save by car sharing, and also featuring key council workers and politicians who are committed to car sharing.

The Leader of Warwickshire County Council, Cllr Alan Farnell, is throughout this month to try and car share wherever possible with the county council’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment, Cllr Martin Heatley.

Cllr Heatley said: “It does take some thought and planning to car share, but the financial and environmental benefits are massive. And people don’t have to do it every day. If everyone car shared just once a week it would have a huge impact on congestion in Warwickshire.”

The two councillors are being joined by the Strategic Director of Environment and Economy John Deegan who will be car sharing with Head and Rural and Management Services, Julia Brook, wherever possible. Two council officers, Sara Board and Mike Holdsworth, will also be car sharing.

All six of the featured car sharers are posting regular blogs in the internet and have also filmed video clips, which are available for viewing on the web pages.

Warwickshire County Council last year launched a car sharing database for its own staff members and more than 200 employees are now car sharing regularly and the number is increasing on an almost daily basis.
