Have your say on gender equality in Warwickshire
People are being encouraged to have their say on how Warwickshire County Council can help eliminate sex discrimination and harassment to ensure that people living in the county are treated equally.
The Gender Equality Duty, the biggest change in sex equality legislation for 30 years, comes into force in April.
It places a positive duty on public authorities to promote equality for women and men by ensuring they are treated fairly in policy-making, services and employment.
The new duty will prompt public authorities to look at questions such as:
• Are our schools encouraging girls and boys into non-traditional careers?
• Are primary health services being used as much by men as women?
To meet this duty, Warwickshire County Council is putting together a Gender Equality Scheme and would like to receive people’s opinions and comments to help them develop it.
It has launched a ‘Gender Survey’, which is available to complete online by following the link below. The consultation will continue until Friday 15 June 2007.
The Gender Equality Duty builds upon Sex Discrimination and Equal Pay legislation which has existed since the 1970s.
