Child casualties down
The number of children being killed or seriously injured on Warwickshire’s roads has fallen once again.
A new report into road casualty statistics in Warwickshire has been released today and reveals that casualties among children aged 0 to 15 are down from 234 in 2005 to 194 in 2006.
Warwickshire County Council’s road safety unit, which produces the annual report on road casualties in Warwickshire, says the reductions may be due in part to the continued commitment of their road safety professionals who organise school visits, events, training initiatives and awareness raising campaigns in partnership with Warwickshire Police and Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service.
Cllr Martin Heatley, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio holder for the Environment, said: “Since the mid 1990s the number of killed or seriously injured children in Warwickshire has steadily reduced from around 69 to 23 last year – which is amazing.
“However, we still have a long way to go to make sure this figure drops even further -even one casualty is one too many.”
