Fiona reaches school chef final

A local primary school chef has cooked a Rugby inspired menu at the regional School Chef of the Year Competition.

Newcomer to the competion, Fiona O’Connell from Henry Hinde Junior School in Rugby impressed the judges at the recent West Midlands regional final with her Rugby-themed menu.

Fiona served up ‘Scrummy’ Chicken Ravioli on a Duo of Sauces with Summer Berry Sensation (Give it a TRY!) to follow.

Although pipped at the winning post by an entrant from Solihull, Fiona still came away delighted to have received a highly commended award for her dessert.

Sandra Russell, Divisional Director of Warwickshire’s County Caterers, said: “Although this was Fiona’s first foray in the competition, she did incredibly well and inspired everyone with her ‘highly commended’ dessert.

"Fiona’s performance shows the way in which our staff are committed to raising standards and providing good quality, nutritious food.”

School Chef of the Year is a national competition organised by The Local Authority Caterers’ Association.
