Shields and Chivalry
To help find out more about shields, jousting and coats of arms, Warwickshire’s County Record Office is running a ‘Shields and Chivalry’ event as part of the popular national Children’s University scheme.
Just as footballers have different strips to tell each other apart, so did medieval knights have their own special coats of arms to display whilst jousting.
Offering great fun for young children aged 7-13 in the holidays, they will get the chance to design and make their own shield, decorate it with their own coat of arms and find out more about heraldry using some of the examples from the County Record Office.
The session takes place at the County Record Office at 2.30pm on Thursday 5 April with a cost of £2.
Rowan Fisher, Learning and Outreach Officer, says: “We are pleased to run this popular session again in conjunction with the Children’s University and hope that children will find it stimulating and entertaining.”
Demand has been high in the past so it is recommended that children book in advance by calling 01926 738959.
