Free Boat Fire Safety Checks in North Warwickshire

Boaters in North Warwickshire are being urged to take up the offer of a free boat fire safety check during the launch of National Boat Fire Safety Week (26 – 31 March).

The Boat Fire Safety campaign, which was originally launched in September 2006 by Warwickshire County Council’s Fire and Rescue Service in partnership with the Boat Safety Scheme, is now being rolled out across the country by the Department for Communities and Local Government.

During the launch firefighters are urging people living on narrow boats to ask for a free boat fire safety check from their nearest fire station. Atherstone and Coleshill will be carrying out boat fire safety checks in North Warwickshire.

The check will include assessing escape routes, checking for and if necessary fitting of smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors and making sure that flammable material are stored safely.

Area Risk Officer, Graham Vann-Turner commented: “The boat fire safety check scheme has proven that it can save lives, just as our home fire safety check service does. If you live on a boat or even if you own a boat, you may be entitled to a free check.

"So please give us a call or log onto http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/fireandrescue for more information and advice.”

To request your free Boat Fire Safety Check or for further fire safety information and advice, please contact the Fire Safety Coleshill Office 01675 462007, week days between the hours of 9am and 5pm.
