Local lollipops say fond farewell to Val
After two decades in charge of Warwickshire’s lollipops, veteran Val Murphy will bid a fond farewell this Thursday at the annual training seminar for School Crossing Patrols.
Val will use the seminar, which she organises every year, to say goodbye to the patrols who have been in her care since she began at Warwickshire County Council in 1987.
Stan Milewski, the county council’s Senior Road Safety Officer, said: “Many of the patrols have become Val’s friends over the years and I know she will be very sad to leave them all. They really are the unsung heroes of the road – they do a marvellous job – in all weathers and in some very dangerous locations too.”
The training seminar at the Royal Navy Club in Adelaide Road, Leamington Spa, is an important feature in the road safety calendar, as it gives patrols the opportunity develop their skills and knowledge as well as catch up with old friends.
