Coleshill Parkway open for business this autumn

Work is back on track at the multi-million pound Coleshill Parkway transport scheme, with an official grand opening planned for October of this year.

It was initially planned that the scheme, which commenced in March 2006, would open this spring, but fill material used to construct ramps to the new road bridge will have to be replaced as testing has shown that it does not meet requirements. This means that the scheme will be ready for the public to use about 16 weeks late.

The ambitious multi-million pound transport scheme for Coleshill will see a new railway station and transport interchange built to serve the town.

The Coleshill Parkway Transport Interchange comprises a new railway station and car park at Coleshill/Hams Hall, a rail/bus/pedestrian/cycle/car interchange and an adjoining new bridge at Station Road, Coleshill, for pedestrians, cyclists and buses crossing the Birmingham-Nuneaton rail line.

The scheme is co-funded by the Department for Transport, Warwickshire County Council, John Laing, and developer contributions secured by North Warwickshire Borough Council. Carillion Rail is carrying out the construction works.

Cllr Martin Heatley, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “We are of course disappointed with the delay, but thanks to our close working with partners we are getting back on track and looking ahead to the opening of the scheme.”

Andy Pearson, Director of Rail Projects at John Laing, added: “Coleshill Parkway will provide commuters, residents, employees of Hams Hall and users of Birmingham International Airport with a convenient alternative access to rail travel. We are working closely with Carillion to ensure the new works are delivered as soon as possible and look forward to opening the station in late summer.”

The railway station will provide a new two-platform stop for trains on the Birmingham to Nuneaton railway line.  Associated facilities include a car park with priority disabled parking, cycle facilities, ticket office and a pedestrian footbridge.
