Building bridges towards a stile free walk

A bid to make a circular walk completely stile free has taken a step nearer becoming a reality thanks to the hard work of local volunteers.

Ansley Parish Path Volunteers have just completed their latest project to restore the network of public rights of way to good condition for everyone to use and enjoy.

The group has put the finishing touches to a brand new six metre wooden footbridge as part of a project to open a stile free circular walk in the parish.

The path, number AE116, runs between Birchley Heath and Church End and onwards to Galley Common to the west of Nuneaton.

Marina Kirchem, Community Paths Coordinator at Warwickshire County Council, said: "The volunteers worked hard to first open a gap in the overgrown hedge and then build the new bridge and were justifiably proud of their efforts."

The group plans to install new gates and make some surface improvements to make the path as user friendly as possible.

Marina added: "The volunteer group and I would like to extend thanks to local farmers in Ansley Parish who have cooperated and assisted with improvement works to the local path network."
