Music fans are rocked by Raw Tuition

Music fans from Nuneaton and Bedworth were rocked by a wealth of musical talent at a recent youth arts showcase.

Organised by Warwickshire County Council’s Division for Young People, the ‘Raw Tuition’ concert was staged to celebrate youth creativity in Nuneaton and Bedworth.  The event, which took place at Bedworth Civic Hall, was the culmination of music and dance workshops, which had been taking place at Camphill and Croxall Street Youth Centres.

The acts included dhol drummers from the Asian Regeneration Programme, solo artists Alisha and Faye, dance group Just Bring It, punk band Perfect Mistakes, acoustic rock band Roadside Romance and Stix Kidz who performed their own style of ‘grime’ - a new genre of British hip hop.

Event organiser Bob Mardle, who is a youth worker for Warwickshire County Council’s Division for Young People, said: “The Raw Tuition showcase was successful on many levels but mostly for the young people that participated. It is through positive projects such as this, where young people are able to develop their confidence and self esteem, that the negative attitudes towards them can be challenged.”

He added: ”The success of the project has prompted many young people, their families and agencies who work with young people, to ask for the initiative to continue so that a youth arts showcase can become a regular event in the calendar for Nuneaton and Bedworth.”
