Do you have what it takes to become a retained firefighter?

If working 9 – 5 is what you had in mind, then that doesn’t have to change – well not much, unless you’re looking to be part of a team which is ready to face any emergency!

Warwickshire County Councils Fire and Rescue Service are looking to recruit retained duty fire fighters to deal with a wide range of situations and incidents. These include fires, road traffic collisions, hazardous materials, floods and increasingly community fire safety work.
The job of a Firefighter is for men and women who come from all walks of the community and in all shapes and sizes, however it can be a tough job and you need to be fit and healthy with good eyesight.  You also need to live or work within a couple of minutes of the fire station.

Retained fire stations are based in:
Alcester                 Fenny Compton             Stratford Upon Avon
Atherstone             Henley in Arden             Studley
Bedworth               Kenilworth                 Warwick
Bidford on Avon         Polesworth                 Wellesbourne
Brinklow                 Shipston on Stour
Coleshill                 Southam

County Fire Officer, William Brown said: What we really need are people who can respond to emergencies, particularly in rural areas and during daytime hours. Becoming a retained duty firefighter requires a lot of commitment, but it is one of the most rewarding jobs in the community.”

On average, you will be called out two or three times a week for a couple of hours. If you cannot be available all the time, that’s not a problem. You can be paid for being ‘on call’ only part of the day or week. This means that you don’t have to give up your normal job, as we can work around it.

As well as job satisfaction, you will be trained to use a range of fire fighting and rescue equipment and be paid a basic fee for call outs and another for going into action. You will also be paid for training nights and duties like equipment maintenance and community safety work.

So if you think that you have what it takes to become part of a winning team, then come along to our open days, which are taking place at:
