King’s House is jewel in crown
A key commercial property in Bedworth, which has been brought back to life after a radical refurbishment, received a visit from the building’s landlords today (24th April).
They were keen to see how staff from Warwickshire County Council were settling in since they started to move into the building in November last year.
King’s House on King Street has undergone a massive renovation and refit by the owners – the King Henry VIII Endowed Trust – and will eventually be home to almost 300 county council staff.
The council has been moving staff from across the education, social care, property, and customer service departments in to the building since it opened last year.
Martyn Howard of commercial property agents D&P Holt said it was essential for the economy of the local area that the building was fully occupied.
“This is a key building to the local economy. It had been unoccupied for around two years and the Trust has spent more than £500,000 renovating it – a sum which has been added to by the council to bring it up to its requirements.
“It is great to see Warwickshire County Council making full use of King’s House, ensuring that it has a very worthwhile future.”
The reception area has also been given a radical overhaul and transformed into ‘Warwickshire Direct – Bedworth’, a ‘one stop shop’ that provides people in Bedworth with direct, face-to-face access to council information and services.
The top floor of the building, which dominates the Bedworth skyline, is occupied by a growing team of customer service staff.
Kushal Birla, Head of Customer Service and Access, said: “We are extremely pleased with the building and are grateful to the landlords for working with us to transform King’s House into a modern, vibrant place to work and a valuable, accessible facility for members of the public.
“Making the move to Bedworth has been good for the county council and good for the town.”
