Mobile police stations mean safer neighbourhoods

Mobile Police Stations are to start visiting villages and rural areas around Warwick, to the delight of County Councillors who have campaigned for the service.

The mobile stations will transport Police Officers and Police Community Support Officers around rural areas, with residents in Bishops Tachbrook, Budbrooke, Leek Wootton and Lapworth wards set to benefit.

The scheme was launched on 19th April at Lapworth and is part of the Safer Neighbourhoods initiative, which sees Warwickshire Police working with communities and partners, including Warwickshire County Council, to address local policing priorities.

The aim is to maximize police coverage, particularly in more remote locations of the county, by providing a base for police staff who will patrol the local area on foot and by bike.

The mobile stations will also offer scheduled ’surgeries’, where local residents can go and talk to officers and report any local crime and safety concerns they may have.

The mobile police station is in addition to the fixed site facilities operating in the Warwick district and not intended to replace any of them. Rural posts such as Hatton and Lapworth will continue to be used regularly.

Inspector Richard Woodcock, Warwick Sector Inspector, said: “The Mobile Police Station provides us with an ideal opportunity to meet the community in their own environment, increase visibility and promote community safety by answering the public’s needs.”

Warwickshire County Council is one of the partners Warwickshire Police have worked with, and County Councillors Les Caborn (Bishops Tachbrook) and Josephine Compton (Leek Wootton) are delighted that the mobile stations will be visiting their areas.

Councillor Compton said: “The Mobile Police Station is visiting all villages in the Warwick Rural West district over the next few months.

"Representatives of the Parish Councils will publicise the programme so as many people as possible can meet the officers of the Safer Neighbourhoods team, to enable a good relationship to be built between the Police and the community”.
