Wind band signs top brass

The winds of change are blowing through the County Music Service with the appointment of a new performance group leader.

Daniel Walton has been signed up as the new director of the County Wind Band. His appointment is one in a series of forward looking changes made by Warwickshire County Council’s Music Service designed to allow young people of all abilities make music to the best of their potential.

A performer on the trombone, Daniel brings both playing and conducting experience to the post having conducted all the major University of Birmingham ensembles and played with the National Wind Orchestra of Wales. Daniel is a graduate from the University of Birmingham and is currently studying for an M.Phil in musical composition. Later this summer he will be conducting the university of Birmingham symphony Orchestra on a concert tour to Frankfurt.

The County Youth Wind Band has earned an enviable reputation for the quality of its music both at home and abroad. It is one of several County Performance Groups organised by Warwickshire County Council’s Music Service, which represents youth music making at the highest level.

Daniel comes from a musical family and his brother John is a member of the County Music Service music education team in North Warwickshire.

Daniel said: “I am delighted to be the new director of the Warwickshire County Wind band. I have very much enjoyed my first term of working with the group and am excited about the prospect of continuing to develop the band with such an enthusiastic and committed group of young people.”
