National funding for green fingered Camp Hill project
Anyone who has ever yearned to learn more about working in the great outdoors is being offered the chance through a new scheme which offers training and the chance to benefit the local community.
An exciting new training and placement scheme is soon to go live following funding approval from the Government Office West Midlands.
Building Sustainable Neighbourhoods, with Warwickshire County Council, has recently got approval to set up a new project which aims to encourage people to learn new skills in horticulture and countryside management while also benefiting two of the area’s local green spaces.
The Greening Fingers project consists of three key components:
A training and work placement programme for local people in horticulture and countryside management;
Increasing the capacity and resources of Camp Hill Gardening Scheme Ltd a community enterprise and
Environmental improvements to the Dingle, by upgrading footpaths, tree planting and carrying out erosion works at Stubbs’ Pool, and at Whittleford Park.
The course is aimed at unemployed people who would like to learn more about ‘greening’ skills and get some hands on experience in the work place.
The Regeneration Zone Opportunity Centre will be running the course and with placements taking place at Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, Camp Hill Gardening Scheme Ltd and Warwickshire County Council all trainees will get a true understanding of what its like to work outside.
Building Sustainable Neighbourhoods Environmental Action Co-ordinator Catherine Marks said: “This is a great opportunity for people to get a taste of what it would be like to work in the gardening and countryside field.
“The course gives people a chance to learn some new skills and discover whether they would like to go further in this line of work.”
Anyone interested in finding out more about the scheme should contact Catherine or Nigel Bond at the Opportunity Centre on 024 7638 7279.
Camp Hill Gardening Scheme Ltd will be shortly recruiting a new supervisor thanks to the ERDF funding which will enable them to build on the services they offer and allow more people to volunteer with them.
Currently the scheme offers a gardening service to those people who are unable to maintain their own gardens due to ill health or disability.
