Teachers get taster of fast food technology

Teachers have been given a taster into the behind scenes operation of a McDonalds restaurant.

The nine teachers from schools all over Warwickshire took part in the teacher development day centred on food technology and organised by the Warwickshire Education Business Partnership and McDonalds.

Based at the McDonalds on Bermuda Park in Nuneaton, the day gave teachers an insight into how McDonalds is run as a company; it’s food safety procedures and new product development.

The event also included a tour of the Bermuda Park restaurant run by Sarah McLean where teachers could even try their hand at making one of McDonalds famous ‘Deli’ Sandwiches.

“The idea behind the day” said Julie O’Toole, Enterprise Development Officer at the Warwickshire Education Business Partnership, “is that we give teachers the experience of industry that they can take back to the classroom to enhance their teaching of the curriculum. McDonalds is a company all young people can relate to”.

Feedback from the teachers was very positive,
“The day was very interesting and well presented. There was a good range of activities and people to talk to.”
