Firms get gold star for work with youngsters
Businesses across Warwickshire are gearing up for workshops and awards aimed at supporting youngsters in their move from school to the working world.
The Warwickshire Education Business Partners Employer Conference and Awards 2007, is taking place on Wednesday, May 16, at the Trident Technology and Business Centre, Leamington Spa.
The daylong conference is free and open to any local business interested in improving the employability of young people through supporting work-related learning and training for young people.
Speakers at the conference include local businessman and Britain’s Best Boss 2006, Bruce Draper, and Corri van de Stege, the national Head of Skills for Young People, with the Sector Skills Development Agency.
Warwickshire Education Business Partnership will be presenting awards recognising the contributions made by Warwickshire employers to their business education work in schools this year.
Conference organiser Sue Wyatt from Warwickshire EBP said business volunteers play a vital part by giving one to one practice interviews, facilitating at business days on school premises or giving talks at careers events.
She said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the activities of WEBP and to introduce new and existing employers to the range of opportunities to work with young people to develop their individual skills for work. I encourage anyone who’s interested in this exciting work to come along to the day.”
