Making decisions for yourself - A new law

Warwickshire County Council is promoting awareness of the new Mental Capacity Act throughout the county.

This new law took effect on 2 April 2007 and aims to protect people’s rights when they are at their most vulnerable.
The Act aims to promote the fair treatment of individuals and protects the rights of some of the most vulnerable people in society.  It applies to everyone over the age of 18 years and in part, for those from 16 years to 18 years of age.

A leaflet explaining all about the Mental Capacity Act is available now from all Warwickshire libraries and in other places such as doctor’s surgeries, Warwickshire County Council’s Adult Social Care district offices, carers groups and Citizen’s Advice Bureaus.

It can also be downloaded from a link on the Warwickshire County Council’s Mental Capacity Act website http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/mca or by telephoning the council on 01926 410410 or email MCAct@Warwickshire.gov.uk
