High praise for county engineering

Individual excellence and teamwork on a major project have won praise from the Institution of Civil Engineers.

In separate awards Warwickshire County Council’s Chris Nason and engineers Steve O’Connor and Richard Roberts picked up awards at the ICE West Midlands Project Awards held recently in Birmingham.

Cllr Martin Heatley, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “My congratulations go to Chris Nason from the Design Services Group on his recent Spirit of Thomas Telford award from the Institution of Civil Engineers.

“He was awarded this in acknowledgement of his work in the encouragement and development of civil engineers both within Warwickshire County Council and across the region.”

And the Bridge Maintenance section of Design Services were also congratulated on their Highly Commended project in the Historic Buildings category of the ICE West Midlands Project Awards, for the recent works done to Warwick’s Lord Leycester Hospital in repairing flood damage.

The engineers for the scheme, Steve O’Connor and Richard Roberts, attended the event to collect the award from the President of the ICE and were complimented on the inclusion of the Bear and Ragged Staff crest incorporated into the design. The contractors for the scheme, Currall Lewis and Martin were also praised for their high quality work.
