Mayor to launch new Credit Union project in Nuneaton

An innovative new credit union project has been launched in Nuneaton and Bedworth at Aim 4 by the Mayor.

The project, a collection point for Nuneaton Credit Union is one of the first of its kind in the country to be run by people with learning disabilities for the use of service users and staff.

In early 2006, a partnership was formed to take the project forward between Aim 4, a Community Placement Unit for adults with learning disabilities as part of Warwickshire County Council’s Adult, Health and Community Services and Hereward College, the national integrated college for disabled students in Coventry.

After studying money management at Hereward College, students have learnt the skills to enable them to run the collection point and it will be a self-funding project.

Rob Kerr, Employment Officer from Aim 4, said
“We are delighted to see the fruition of a year’s partnership working resulting in this possibly unique project. The collection point will provide employment for a number of adults with learning difficulties.”
