Training exercise helps Warwickshire to be prepared!

Firefighters from across Warwickshire will once again be hitting the roads for a training convoy exercise, which aims to test the resilience and training required in a major emergency.

Eight fire engines, a training pump, incident response unit (IRU), seven police outriders and two police cars will travel over 70 miles as part of the exercise, to ensure that should there be a major incident anywhere in the country, that both the Warwickshire County Council’s Fire and Rescue Service and Warwickshire Police have the capability and resilience to mobilise the IRU and supporting appliances with a co-ordinated response.

The exercise will also provide valuable training for drivers to become familiar with the procedures and skills required for convoy driving.

The co-ordinator of the training exercise, Paul Hodges said:
“Due to the success of the training exercise we held in March, we decided to hold another exercise following a similar format to ensure that more of our firefighters have the essential training needed, should we have to deploy a significant amount of our resources to any incident within the county.”

The exercise will begin at Warwickshire County Council’s County Fleet maintenance unit in Coleshill.
