Musical mountaineer reaches summit of success
A trombone tutor for Warwickshire’s County Music Service has proven she has plenty of puff by climbing the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales in just 24 hours.
Claire McIntyre, who works as a brass teacher for Warwickshire County Council’s Music Service in North Warwickshire, attempted the Three Peaks Challenge - climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Mount Snowdon in 24 hours over the bank holiday weekend. To complete the challenge she ascended and descended all three peaks (and was driven between them) in just 23 hours and 7 minutes.
Claire made her climb to raise money for WaterAid, a charity which provides clean water and sanitation to people in developing countries. Those who would like to sponsor Claire still have the opportunity to do so through http://www.justgiving.com/clairethreepeaks until 26 July 2007.
Claire said: “The muscle fatigue, sleep deprivation and harsh weather conditions I experienced were a stern test of my resolve at some points of the challenge, but the exhilaration of reaching each summit and the incredible views, particularly from Ben Nevis, more than compensated for the tough moments. Standing at the top of each country was an amazing feeling and I’m delighted I finished within 24 hours. I’m very grateful to everyone who has sponsored me so far – your support was a great incentive to finish."
She added: "Any further donations would be most welcome, as my online fundraising webpage will be active until 26 July.”
