Students share their thoughts on settling in
Students are being asked to share their suggestions and ideas to help Bishop Wulstan pupils settle in to their new schools.
Students from both receiving schools and Bishop Wulstan have been invited to share positive tips and suggestions to help other students who are facing change. Ideas can take the form of poems, pictures and short stories and the county council will be awarding book tokens to the best ones.
Ideas can be emailed to Sue Dudley project manager on sjdudley2007-projectmanager@yahoo.co.uk or sent to Sue Dudley, Children, Young People and Families Directorate, Saltisford Office Park, Ansell Way, Warwick, CV34 4UL by 10 July. The most helpful ideas will appear in the local authority newsletter, which is sent to all Bishop Wulstan pupils and their parents.
The student ideas scheme is one of a host of initiatives that are being organised by the county council to help Bishop Wulstan students with their transition to other schools. A series of induction days and events have been coordinated at nine receiving schools to welcome pupils and parents into their new school community.
School councils have organised buddying schemes to help Bishop Wulstan pupils find their way round and form relationships with staff and students. Parents have also been invited to induction meetings and events at receiving schools.
A project manager, who has been appointed by the county council to manage the school closure, has been working closely with parents of pupils at Bishop Wulstan School to deal with any concerns regarding the transition.
Cllr Burton, Cabinet Member for Schools, said: “We want young people who know what it is like to start a new school to come forward with positive suggestions and advice to help Bishop Wulstan pupils settle in to their new surroundings. We have been heartened and encouraged by the response from school councils and individual pupils who are keen to welcome Bishop Wulstan pupils into their school community.”
