Plans for Compton Verney Arts Festival 2007 announced

Compton Verney Art Gallery and Warwickshire County Council have announced that their partnership to host the Family Readers and Writers Weekend will continue following two highly successful years.

This year’s festival, entitled ‘Wild about…’, features family fun events based on a green theme.  The spectacular event-filled weekend will take place on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 September at Compton Verney. Aimed at families, the weekend will include storytellers, illustrators, authors, workshops, bounce and rhyme for under 3s, free giveaways and much, much more.

Staging the event has been made possible by a joint bid between the County Council and the art gallery to the Arts Council for funding.  Writers already confirmed for this year’s event include Kathryn Hughes, an expert on George Eliot who will be marking the 150th anniversary of Eliot’s first novel with a talk on the author’s life and works and Orange prize winning author, Helen Dunmore

Its collections include portraits of such celebrated figures as Henry VIII and Elizabeth I, the largest collection of British folk art, Northern European medieval art and an extensive range of Neapolitan art dating from 1600 to 1800 and one of the finest collections of Chinese bronzes in the country.
