Youth Chorale to sing at national event
Young singers from Warwickshire are reaching for a new high next month when they take part in a national festival of music.
Warwickshire County Youth Chorale is a mixed choir of 45 singers and is conducted by Garry Jones, director of Warwickshire County Music Service.
Its members come from across Warwickshire and are aged between 13 and 21.
The chorale has been invited, along with 25 other choirs from across the country, to take part in the National Festival of Music 2007 in the Adrian Boult Hall in Birmingham.
Their repertoire ranges from early church music and madrigals to modern choral composers and popular songs.
They perform a full programme of concerts throughout the year both locally and nationally.
They recently joined a Festival of American Concert and Show Choirs at the Shaw Theatre in London. Previously, the chorale has toured in France, Germany and Malta and there are plans to visit Beijing in 2009.
They will be joined at the festival by the Fretted Five – a viol consort whose members are aged between 12 and 14.
Garry Jones said: “I’m delighted that we have two groups representing Warwickshire at this prestigious national event. The Chorale has seen its reputation steadily grow over the years and this will be yet another chance for the county’s finest young singers to take the stage on a national platform. The Fretted Five is another high quality ensemble to come out of the huge variety of groups that are held at our music centres around the county and they are also worthy representatives of Warwickshire.”
