600 Rugby students face festival challenge

The gauntlet is being thrown down to 600 school pupils in Rugby to come up with a business case for a festival for the town.

The Year 12 students from Rugby School, Lawrence Sheriff, Rugby High School and Ashlawn will all be attending this year’s two day Management and Leadership Conference on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The annual conference is produced and managed by the Warwickshire Education Business Partnership, supported by Warwickshire County Council, and is held on both Rugby School and Lawrence Sheriff School sites.

Thirty representatives from both local and national companies will be giving up their time to guide the students through a series of challenging management-training exercises culminating in an Event Management Project.

The Project will entail planning and organising a two-day ‘Rugby Festival’, which should promote either the town, or the game or both.

Ball Packaging and IBM have sponsored prizes for the most original, best-researched and presented idea. Other sponsors of the event include ASDA, Lutterworth and the Independent State School Partnership.

To choose the finalists, representatives from Rugby Borough Council (including Chief Executive Simon Warren), Rugby Lions, St.Andrews RFC and Rugby Town Centre Partnership will be judging an exhibition of the students work.

The finalists will present their findings to the four head teachers of the participating schools in front of an audience of 700 people.
