Care Ambassador visits Rugby High School

Rugby High School hosted a visit by Care Ambassador, Amanda Carr, who is Head of Older People’s Services for Coventry City Council.

Amanda spoke to Year 10 students, as part of their PHSE lessons, about the huge variety of jobs on offer in the care professions. She was joined by Jean Wooliscroft, Training Manager at BEN Town Thorns, Easenhall, Rugby and Diane Godsell, Assistant Manager, FCH Housing and Care,  Coventry who added their own experiences working in care. Students heard about a range of careers such as care assistants, social workers, occupational therapists, physios and voluntary/non statutory agencies to name but a few.

The Care Ambassador scheme is run by the Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership for Care (CWPC) which is jointly funded by Warwickshire County Council, Coventry City Council and Skills for Care. Care Ambassadors are care professionals who visit schools across Coventry and Warwickshire to try and interest young people in careers in care.

Lots of people working in care have shown an interest in becoming Care Ambassadors and 38 will be visiting schools offering presentations to students in years 9, 10 and 11.

Work experience opportunities are available in care and young people are being encouraged to “try out” the sector if they think that this would be a good career for them.

Sally Bussey, Career and Development Worker for CWPC, said
“This is the second of our visits to Rugby High School and we are delighted to be invited back. The Care Ambassador scheme is expanding and we are always looking for dedicated care professionals who would like to spread the word on careers in care.”

If you would like a presentation in your school, particularly year 9, please contact Sally Bussey on 01926 731044 or email on sallybussey@warwickshire.gov.uk
