Kenilworth primaries pilot specialist status

A group of schools in Warwickshire are to pilot a specialist status scheme at primary school level.

Six primary schools in Kenilworth have been selected to take part in a national pilot to become specialist schools. Their shared specialism will be Modern Foreign Languages and the three-year trial will start in September.

The Kenilworth cluster of schools taking part are St John’s Primary School, St Nicholas CofE Primary School, Park Hill Junior School, Priors Field Primary School, Clinton Primary School and St. Augustine’s Catholic Primary School.

The Specialist Schools and Academies Trust approached Warwickshire about the scheme as part of their raising standards agenda. The Kenilworth cluster matched the criteria and put in a bid to focus on Modern Foreign Languages as a specialism.

Lorrie Cooper, Warwickshire County Council’s Principal Primary Inspector: "This is an exciting opportunity for primary schools to see whether introducing a specialism helps raise standards as it has in our secondaries.

"The schools in the Kenilworth cluster have been particularly enthusiastic about this new focus and we look forward to seeing if specialisms can make the difference."
