Warwickshire schools ‘serve’ a great tennis lunch

Students from Alderman Smith School and Sports College in Stockingford, Nuneaton, were ‘served’ a Wimbledon themed lunch menu to inspire healthy eating within Warwickshire schools.

Warwickshire’s County Caterers, prepared the menu in appropriate timing with the Wimbledon Championships, to encourage school pupils to eat more healthily and to get involved in physical activity.

Children from across Warwickshire have been tucking into an array of themed dishes and accompaniments including ‘Grand Slam Chicken’, ‘Match Point Jackets’ and ‘Wimbledon Strawberry Sundae’.

Lindsay Higgins, of Warwickshire County Council, said: “The Wimbledon menu is a great way to inspire children to take part in sporting events and gives them an idea as to how a good diet contributes to a healthy lifestyle.”

County Caterers, Warwickshire County Council’s catering arm, provides school meals to nearly every primary and almost half the secondary schools in the county.  The Wimbledon 2007 lunch menu is just the latest initiative being run by Warwickshire County Council to promote healthy eating. County Caterer’s main aim is to provide food that is fun to eat, nutritious and creates an awareness of a healthy lifestyle.
