Competition heats up in Alcester!
Pupils from St Benedict’s school have shown they are real winners by designing and creating their very own poster for a fire safety competition.
The competition, which was run by Warwickshire County Council’s Fire and Rescue Service (WFRS), was open to all of the year 7 students at the school. The theme of the competition was the short and long term effects of arson. Out of all the entries received five lucky winners were chosen, all of whom will receive a goody bag and certificate which will be presented to the students in their assembly on Friday 13 July.
The competition is run as part of the fire safety and arson awareness programme, which is run by WFRS for pupils in key stage 3.
Schools Liaison Officer, Ruth Greenhalgh said:
“We were really impressed with the standard of entries we received from the pupils. Young people of this age often know about the dangers of fire, so these sessions are much more about focussing on issues firefighters face such as arson and the effects a fire can have. During the ‘Fire Experience’ session they get to hear firefighters recount personal true life experiences, which can be a real eye opener for these young people.”
