Training prepares firefighters for success!
Firefighters in South Warwickshire are taking part in a training exercise to ensure that they have the right skills required to use the new High Volume Pump Unit.
The training exercise will take place from 6pm on Tuesday 10 July at Ragley Hall. Firefighters from Stratford, Southam, Fenny Compton and Studley will be taking part.
Each HVP is capable of moving huge volumes of water - up to 7,000 litres of water per minute. A pair of HVP’s could empty an Olympic size swimming pool in 3 hours compared to just over 9 hours with standard fire and rescue service pumps. A road tanker containing 28000 litres (roughly 6,200 gallons) could be emptied by a single HVP in 4 minutes. Each HVP set comes in 2 parts, both of which weighs ten tonnes - or the same as eight family cars.
Watch Manager, Mark Styzacker said:
“HVP units have proved instrumental in dealing with major floods as demonstrated by the highly successful operations during the floods in Sheffield, where 27 High Volume Pumps were used. It is essential that all firefighters are equipped with the right training to use these pumps in order to be prepared for any emergency. The HVP units can not only pump water out, but they can also pump water to an incident should it be needed.”
