Flooding situation in Warwickshire as at: 15:30 Friday

Warwickshire County Council emergency planning team is currently coordinating activities across the county following a day of heavy rainfall.

The south of Warwickshire has so far been the worst hit by the heavy rain and flooding, and currently more than 20 roads are closed in Warwickshire, the vast majority of these in the Stratford area.

A422 – Pillerton Priors
A46 – Bishopton, Stratford
A46 Bishop Lane
A3400 – Birmingham Road between Arden Street and A46
B4555 – flooded
B4100 – Gaydon
B4086 – Edge Hill
A3400 – Bearly
C96 – Staple Hill, Wellesbourne
C35 – Fenny Compton Railway Bridge
C143 – Plough Lane, Bishops Itchington
C40 – Ingon Lane
C93 Snitterfield Lane
M40 – standing water and an accident southbound near Gaydon causing heavy delays

Warwick area:

Andrew Savage, County Highways Operations Manager, said: “Drivers should be very cautious in these conditions, and if a road closure sign is up, then don’t drive down the road.”

Warwickshire’s Fire and Rescue Service is opening its operations room from 5pm to take all non-emergency calls. This is being staffed by volunteers.

The county council’s adult services has been responding with 4x4 vehicles to get home carers to the most vulnerable adults, and the Lower Meadow Care Home in Stratford has had emergency heaters supplied after the boiler room was flooded.

The majority of Warwickshire’s schools closed early today and flooding is believed to have occurred in the premises of schools at Studley and Shipston.

Currently hundreds of sand bags are being distributed and being prepared across the county to deal with highways issues, another 20 tonnes of sand is being delivered tomorrow morning to the county’s Wellesbourne depot and ten tones to the depot at Coleshill.

Jeremy Lee, Warwickshire County Council’s Emergency Planning Manager, said: “We currently have flood watch alerts on 12 rivers, flood warnings on the Tame at Water Orton and Cole at Coleshill and a Severe Flood Warning on the River Stour at Shipston.

“We are monitoring the situation and responding to incidents across the county as they arise.”
