Summer home safety warning issued in Nuneaton & Bedworth
Homeowners in Nuneaton and Bedworth are being warned to make sure they do not leave an ‘open invite’ to criminals this summer.
Warwickshire County Council’s Community Safety team have issued the warning following a number of reported burglaries in and around Nuneaton and Bedworth, many of which occurred after doors were left unlocked.
In the summer months, people are often tempted to leave doors and windows open, particularly as temperatures rise.
However, the Community Safety team are urging the public to keep home security in mind by considering a range of safety measures which can keep criminals out.
Julie Sullivan, Warwickshire County Council’s Corporate Community Safety Manager, said: "You can evade thieves by locking doors and windows when you go out for the evening or are away on holiday.
"Limiters should also be considered to decrease the distance a window can be opened. The smaller the opening, the less possibility there is of anybody gaining access.
"Aim to avoid leaving windows open and think about getting a ventilation or air conditioning system installed as an alternative.
"Every one wants to enjoy the summer, but not by losing valued belongings through carelessness or complacency."
