Rugby star joins families for DisABILITY fun day

Sporting champion Rob Tarr of Great Britain’s wheelchair rugby team will be joining Nuneaton’s disABILITY fun day on Friday 27 July.

Nuneaton and Bedworth Leisure Trust has worked closely with Take A Break; Nuneaton, Bedworth and North Warwickshire’s Integrated Disability Service; Positive About Young People and North Warwickshire Borough Council to create the fun-packed day for children with disabilities and their families.  Positive about Young People, which is a partnership between Warwickshire County Council and Warwickshire Police, has funded the project.

Families are being invited to take a picnic along with them to enjoy a full day at the event being staged at The Pingles Stadium in Avenue Road, Nuneaton, on Friday July 27 from 11am until 3pm.

The array of activities includes athletics, a bouncy castle, climbing wall, cricket, fun bubble area, water play, giant board games, treasure hunt, samba drumming and much more.  And the whole day is completely free for families with a child with disabilities living in the Nuneaton and Bedworth or North Warwickshire area to attend. (Childcare will not be provided as families are expected to accompany their own children.)

Warwickshire County Council’s cabinet member for schools Cllr John Burton (Nuneaton, St Nicolas) said: “This year’s DisABILITY Family Fun Day is set to be a wonderful day for all involved and we are delighted that sporting hero Rob Tarr is able to join us.  The event is all about giving children with disabilities and their families the chance to try a range of activities in a fun setting and find out more about the support available to them. I would also like to thank Positive About Young People for providing the funding for the day.’’
