New voice for Rugby’s young people

Two young people from Rugby have been voted in as new members of the County Youth Panel.

The new CYPs from Rugby are Ofure Ugiagbe (16) of Rugby High School and Andrew Williams (17) of Lawrence Sherriff School. The CYPs formally took up their posts on 19 July.

The County Youth Panel gives young people aged from 11-19 the opportunity to voice their views on a number of issues that affect them by meeting councillors and other decision makers. The County Youth Panel are working with school governors on Relationship and Sex Education and have also put together a survey to help tackle the problem of bullying in schools.

Cllr Izzi Seccombe, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said: “I would like to congratulate our new members of the County Youth Panel. We work very closely together with the CYPs and we are keen to hear about the issues that face them.”
Shinderpaul Bhangal of Warwickshire County Council’s Youth and Community Service said: “The Youth Panel plays an important role in giving young people from across Warwickshire a voice, and works closely with a number of departments within the County Council as well as other organisations.”
The CYP elections are organised by Warwickshire County Council’s Services to Young People.
