Urgent works in Market Square

A collapsing sewer is forcing urgent works in the centre of Warwick and motorists are being asked to be patient.

Warwickshire County Council is closing a road in Market Place, Warwick, between the junctions of New Street and Market Street, to allow Severn Trent Water to carry out the works.

The works will get underway on Sunday, August 5, and are expected to last ten days.

During the works some of the traffic flows on the one-way streets will alter to try and keep disruption to a minimum, and motorists are asked to pay close attention all signs.

If vehicles enter the town via Northgate Street, at Old Square junction with New Street, they will have the choice of whichever side of the town they want access too. By turning into New Street as normal, they can drive into Brook Street (reversing the normal traffic flow) and exit via Puckerings Lane. By driving straight on in front of Shire Hall they have access to Market Place (reversing normal traffic flow) The Holloway and then Market Street. HGVs buses and taxis will be allowed into Market Place via New Bridge Street (side of Abbottsford) and then Market Place and Market Street using normal loading bays and bus stops.

Cllr Martin Heatley, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “I want to stress that although we have Market Place closed for essential sewer repairs the town is operating as normal. If visitors and shoppers enter the town via Northgate Street all sides of town and car parks are open and businesses are trading as normal.”
