Big red fire engine – comes to Wolvey Primary School

Reception children from Wolvey Primary School have been having great fun using the Big Red Fire Engine activity box as part of a fire safety session.

The activity box has been created by Warwickshire’s Fire and Rescue Services Community Fire Safety Team to assist carers of pre-school children with teaching fire safety. The box has been used at a number of schools across Warwickshire and is now targeting children from the gypsy and Traveller Community.

Community Safety Liaison Officer, Niky Nind said: “The activity box provides us with a great opportunity to get some very serious messages across in a fun and exciting way.  All of the children were really pleased to see the firefighters and had great fun learning about fire safety using the activities from the box.”

Advisory Teacher for Travelling Children, Paul France said: “This is a really valuable resource and the positive comments from the children certainly show they are learning important lessons in fire safety. The structured play activities will make sure what the children learn is transferred to their home environment.”

Each activity box contains a pop up fire engine tent, firefighters tunics, toy fire extinguishers, fireman Sam video, finger puppets, jigsaws, torch, loudspeaker, hats, posters, pictures and lots of exciting work books which help the children to learn about fire safety in a fun and interactive way.

The packs are available to all early years providers including pre-schools, nurseries and child minders through the early years education and childcare centres.
