A growing success for a training scheme in Nuneaton
A new project which aims to encourage people to learn new skills in horticulture and countryside management has got off to a flying start with the first course now well under way.
The course is aimed at unemployed people who would like to learn more about ‘greening’ skills and get some hands on experience in the work place.
Jake Bradley says ”This has been a great course so far. We have learnt to identify tress, plants and shrubs whilst getting hands on experience as we build and construct fences, paths and decking at the training centre. I would recommend it to anyone who would like to learn more about working in this field.”
Following attendance on the course trainees have an opportunity to then go on a work placement at Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, Camp Hill Gardening Scheme Ltd and Warwickshire County Council to get a true understanding of what its like to work outside and out what they have learnt into practice.
Mike Labram, Countryside Ranger at WCC says “When a trainee comes to us they will be able to experience first hand what it’s like to work in our country parks. From footpath maintenance and woodland management to dealing with visitor enquiries. It is great fun and l think the trainees will get a real taste of it”
The Regeneration Zone Opportunity Centre at Pool Road are running the course on behalf of Building Sustainable Neighbourhoods, Warwickshire County Council and are keen to see more people sign up for the next course. Due to start on Monday 3rd September places are available free of charge so if you are interested contact Nigel Bond on 024 7638 7279.
