Coleshill Parkway prepares for first passengers
The first passengers on services through the new multi-million pound Coleshill Parkway station will be welcomed aboard from Sunday, August 19.
This will provide an all-new station for trains to Birmingham, Nuneaton and Leicester – providing for the first time a direct link for passengers wanting to travel from Leicester to Birmingham Airport.
The majority of trains will also carry on to give a direct service to Peterborough, Cambridge and Stansted Airport.
The station will be fully staffed 24 hours a day and sell tickets to any destination on the UK rail network.
To ensure complete access to the new station a bus station has also been built that will allow bus services from all parts of North Warwickshire and surrounding areas to connect with the trains. A frequent bus link to Birmingham Airport will connect with trains at the station.
There is also a 200-space car park for people who prefer to use their car to travel to the station.
Local people will be able to use a new bridge for pedestrians and cyclists to allow safe journeys between Coleshill town centre and the Hams Hall industrial area.
Cllr Martin Heatley, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “Tests have been carried out in recent weeks and I’m delighted to announce that the first members of the public will be able to use the service from Coleshill Parkway from Sunday, August 19.
“This has been a huge project between the county council and partners, and I’m sure many thousands of people will benefit from this new service in the first few weeks alone.”
The railway station offers a new two-platform stop for trains on the Birmingham to Nuneaton railway line. Associated facilities include a car park with priority disabled parking, cycle facilities, ticket office and a pedestrian footbridge.
The scheme is co-funded by the Department for Transport, Warwickshire County Council, John Laing, and developer contributions secured by North Warwickshire Borough Council. Carillion Rail is carrying out the construction.
Andy Pearson, Director of Rail Projects at John Laing Projects & Developments, added: “Coleshill Parkway will provide commuters, residents, employees of Hams Hall and users of Birmingham International Airport with a convenient alternative access to rail travel.”
