Warwickshire Trading Standards has called retailers in the county to advise them on what goods are affected and what action they need to take.  Spot checks will take place with officers visiting outlets to endure they have complied with the recall.

Toys supplied in the UK must be safe and comply with the Toys (Safety) Regulations 1995 and British Standard BS EN 71. Trading Standards Officers will be visiting and contacting businesses in the County today to ensure that affected stock has been removed from sale.

Mattel UK voluntarily recalled 1.9 million magnetic toys sold at retail from January 1st 2002 through to January 31st 2007.  Magnetic toys recalled within the UK include 53 Polly Pocket toys, 11 Doggie Day Care toys, 4 Batman toys and the accessory part of 1 Barbie toy.  For additional information regarding the magnetic toy recall contact Mattel UK helpline at 01628 500303 or email HelplineUK@mattel.com, or visit the company’s UK web site at http://www.service.mattel.com/uk/

The Sarge toy from the "CARS" die-cast vehicle line was manufactured between May 2007 and August 2007. 49,000 are affected in UK and Republic of Ireland.

Mark Ryder, head of Warwickshire Trading Standards Service, said:  “Once it became apparent that the toys posed a risk, our officers set about supporting retailers in removing the affected products from their shelves.  We are committed to protecting the consumer and will be following up stringently to ensure that Warwickshire’s retailers carry out the recall thoroughly and correctly.”

The products have been supplied to consumers between 2002 and 2007, therefore many products may already be in the home.  Parents and carers are advised to stop a child playing with the toy immediately and either contact Mattel on 01628 500303 or Consumer Direct 08457 040506 for further information.
